STUDY OF ENTROPY GENERATION IN A SLAB WITH NON-UNIFORM INTERNAL HEAT GENERATION
Abstract
Analysis of entropy generation in a rectangular slab with a nonuniform
nternal heat generation is presented. Dimensionless local and
otal entropy generation during steady state heat conduction through
he slab are obtained. Two different boundary conditions have been
onsidered in the analysis, the first with asymmetric convection and the
econd with constant slab surface temperature. Temperature
istribution within the slab is obtained analytically. The study
nvestigates the effect of some relevant dimensionless heat transfer
arameters on entropy generation. The results show that there exists a
inimum local entropy generation but there does not exist a minimum
otal entropy generation for certain combinations of the heat transfer
arameters. The results of calculations are presented graphically.
